Distribution in the Digital Age of Insurance
Chip Bacciocco - Trusted Choice; Danielle Andrew - AmCap Insurance; Craig Welsh - Westfield; Denise Garth - Majesco
If a prospect or a customer does their own research, finds your product, and buys it online, through mobile, or even through an agent — they have just done you the honor of “buying.” For insurance, the purchase process has been difficult and complex for customers and agents for a long time. But in the age of Digital Insurance 2.0, nearly every insurance process is rapidly moving to being frictionless, including “buying.” If distribution channels are easy to use with products that are easy to understand, then insurance has the opportunity to grow through a friction-free multi-channel distribution. And when an agent uses their independent agent network to cultivate leads, makes sales calls, and sends quotes and information, then makes the sale — an insurer is “selling.”

They can then leverage these APIs and services architectures to expose data and even transactional capabilities to rapidly build a digital ecosystem, giving them the flexibility to more easily swap out large or small components—from a payment processing platform to a core admin system—while simplifying their integration environment and reducing costs. It also allows for a path to digital transformation by better enabling mobile and portal development, white labelling of products, and easing the transition from monolithic legacy platforms to modern solutions. Building a Data Future
Javed Siddiqui - MMG; Larry Fortin - Millers Insurance; Ben Moreland - Majesco
As insurers, we’ve grown our data use in much the same way. We now have the potential to gain much better information and value from our data (more horsepower), but we’ve exchanged data’s simplicity for hoses, belts, wires and engines that require ground-up understanding. It is crucial for analytics users to keep their eyes on the end results — an organization focused on competing for customers and markets. Competitive dominance is no longer achieved by operational efficiency, lower prices, massive adver¬tising, large internal systems, or channel loyalty. It is achieved by anticipating trends and pivoting quickly to create and capture the economic and competitive opportunity through a new business model built on data. Insurers that succeed in capturing the opportunity will be those that show strategic courage and forward thinking to redefine their business models, processes, products, services and channels by leveraging data and analytics in innovative ways, becoming data-driven and laying the foundation for Digital Insurance 2.0.
